Boy Scouts Did Herculean Work by James West

The Boy Scouts of America, leading about 400000 boys and 100000 leaders, raised a heroic wartime effort. They sold 200 million dollars in liberty bonds and 30 million in war savings stamps, supplied 20 million feet of walnut lumber, collected fruit pits for gas masks, and aided major agencies. A national drive led by W G McAdoo seeks one million associate members during a seven day Boy Scout Week from June to June 14, with church and civic backing to extend scouting to 10 million youth. Scouting reinforces citizenship and faith, guiding boys toward their churches and homes without coercion, and is supported by Catholic, Protestant, and Jewish communities.
