Fire Fighters Back Strong Defender at Iowa Convention

International Association of Fire Fighters leader Fred W. Baer praised years of backing firemen for fair pay and better conditions at the seventh annual Tawa Association of Fire Fighters convention in Waterloo. He cited $7,000 spent to win $55 back pay in Oakland and $20,000 used in Ohio to reinstate a wrongly removed firefighter. The Iowa gathering, with about 125 members, heard talks from Tibbits, Martin, and Shoemaker, and noted Waterloo’s water facilities as excellent for large fires. Condolences were offered to the families of Ralph Tyler and Fr. E. J. Lockwood, with a schedule of events including a 1:30 p.m. business session, tours, a banquet, and dances.
