Picnics Draw Hundreds Across Townships
About 300 people attended the Poyner township picnic at the Trost farm near Raymond. No. 6 pupils arrived by a decorated four horse wagon. Cedar township’s event at Anna Youngblut farm near Gilbertville drew a smaller crowd as rain shortened the program. County Superintendent Myers awarded diplomas to fourteen Poyner graduates and five from Cedar. A June picnic is planned in John Thome's grove near school No. 6 with a ball game for single and married men at 10, followed by a 1:30 program, races and athletic events. Rural schools Cedar Palla and Waterloo are picnicking today on the State Teachers College campus with a parade, big dinner, and program.
