Western Frankin County Approves Highway 65 and Bond

Voters in Franklin county’s western area oppose the highway plan but approve paying bonds for surfacing. Overall, 1,482 in favor to 787 against for the highway proposal and 1,619 to 305 for the bond issue. Buchanan county also set a June 23 vote on a 1,000,000 bond to finish primary highways with little opposition to hard surfacing.

Chickasaw County Faces Paving Election Drive

New Hampton Iowa June 4 Chickasaw County plans a special election to approve paving despite the state highway commission saying the roads are in good condition. About 700 signers gathered petitions needing 1 1 (440 per cent of last general election voters) to call the vote. Petitions will be reviewed by the board of supervisors within days as the groups press for the election.

Howard Dana Dies at Nashua of Heart Attack

Howard Dana, 64, died suddenly Friday at Nashua from a heart attack while with his wife at home. He had earlier been stricken downtown but had recovered. Survived by his wife and seven children: Dorothy, Mary, Henry, sons Edward, Mark and Ronald, plus two daughters. Water Famine in Waverly Likely to End as Drill Resumes

Water shortages in Waverly since February may ease after drillers recovered a second well and retrieved the first on Friday. Contractors said the courthouse pump was again placed in service while residents use limited available dumps that required repairs to raise water.
