Stormy protest over proposed freight raise in Iowa
Des Moines June 4. The railroad administration proposal to raise coal freight rates along the Milwaukee line in northern Iowa by 30 cents per ton draws strong protests from cities and shippers. State Commissioner Webster and Commerce Counsel Henderson returned from Washington with critics noting higher costs for cement tile brick and other coal dependent industries. They accuse the railroad of failing to notify and of planning a rate hike without warning.
