Coolidge Signs Tax Law and Promises Fight to Change It
President Coolidge signed a new federal tax reduction bill promising to push for a follow up in the next session to craft a measure “less political and more economic.” The law cuts federal revenues by about 361,000,000 for next year and lowers rates to the 1917 levels, with immediate 25 percent income tax relief this year and repeal of certain excise taxes within 30 days. Refunds of retroactive 5 percent reductions for 1923 filers may be issued by Congress with proper appropriation.
