New York farmers expect normal acreage this season

Albany officials of the New York state department of farms and markets say farms will contribute their usual crop amount if farmers pay the high wages laborers demand. They note labor shortages are caused by cost, not lack of workers, with veterans and city migrants likely to return to farms as weather improves. Planting has been delayed by poor early spring conditions, but supplies are improving through cooperation with railroads. Higher wages and expected strong prices could yield record profits for farmers.
