Local dairy success story from Fayette Iowa farmer
John Walter Pulfer of Fayette Iowa built a modern dairy herd around Speckle the foundation cow. Speckle produced 521 pounds of fat and 14 323 pounds of milk last year and, since Nov 2, has yielded 514 4 pounds of fat from seven months of this year. Pulfer’s herd earned high marks in Elgin association events and paid checks totaling hundreds in early 1900s currency. He credits tuberculosis treatment at a Chicago sanitarium and now maintains a robust, productive operation with a Holstein and Whitelength lineage context.
