Teach Foreigners How to Select and Cook Proper Food
The United States Department of Agriculture and home demonstration agents train foreign women in Bayonne New Jersey to choose and cook American foods. Many affordable nutritious staples like oatmeal are unfamiliar and often prepared badly. In one month 25 mothers taught proper oatmeal use for 92 children. A 13 year old Bayonne girl heads six younger siblings after her mother’s influenza death, with meals previously consisting of coffee and cake. The agent now guides the sister-mother in preparing simple economical dishes.
