A July Woman's Club party at the clubhouse drew about one hundred guests who enjoyed a lively musical program with encores. The decor featured Japanese lanterns, garden flowers, and a moonlit grounds birthday touch. After refreshments guests lingered and were shown the clubhouse by new visitors.

H. S. Smith of 302 Dawson Street worked as a switchman in the Illinois Central yards. He was pinned between two couplers while walking between two freight cars in the downtown yards shortly after midnight, suffering minor hip bruises. He was taken to St Francis Hospital by police ambulance for examination and later returned home.
An elderly man about 65, dressed in work clothes and described as demented, was brought to the Chester Illinois police station after odd conduct at a local laundry. He spoke little, had two perforated hate pins, claimed an extra hat for hot weather, and produced a $20 bill from a secret pocket. After contacting the state hospital at Independence and other entities, officials released him deeming him harmless and able to care for himself.
A carload of 30,000 pounds of tea from Shizuoka Japan arrived in Waterloo after 33 days, a record for direct importation this year. The shipment was routed via San Pedro to Waterloo by Union Pacific Chicago and Northwestern and the WI C FP N. Each pound yields 300 cups.
The streetcar line report shows 142 730 passengers in June, down 9 660 from June last year and 2 677 fewer than May. Gross income reached 11 768 235 dollars, with expenses after taxes leaving a net shortfall of 13 824 52 dollars to meet fixed interest and renewal needs. The June 1922 deficit stood at 12 373 75 dollars.
A YMCA report to W H Beverstock shows seventy one Iowans saved from drowning in the past year by YMCA members. The figure comes from a detailed safety program led by local branches and instructors.
The physical committee reports a large role for swimming in the program. About 7,125 boys and young men learned to swim and life save through the association last year with many receiving camp instruction. Special water safety training will begin with September teams.
In a will dated December 6 1916 filed for probate, Mrs Christiana Helsewitz directs a church funeral with singing to resemble her late husband’s service. She provides compensation for caregivers, bequests to St Johns Evangelical Lutheran Cedar Falls 100, to Evangelical Lutheran synod foreign missions and Lutheran orphanage Waverly 56 each, and bequests to an adopted daughter Anna Reise witz and to an adopted daughter Clara Auguste Kreisewitz from the remainder.
Probate court petitions for letters of administration on the estate of Dr John G Bickley filed by Drs Carl and J Cecil Bickley of Waterloo named as joint administrators. The estate lists about 60000 dollars in personal property to be administered and notes prior distributions of over 40000 dollars to his four doctor sons. Walter H French, attorney, notes also deeded hogs worth about 156000 dollars to the sons during his lifetime. Other sons named are Drs Roberts and Emil B of New York City.
Towa Man Representative on the national livestock and meat board reported from Chicago that the group met this week to promote meat knowledge and the value of cheaper cuts. He said consumer awareness of less popular cuts could expand markets and ease prices on more popular cuts.
Rotarians of Black Hawk county held a picnic supper at Cedar River park. Forty two rural Rotarians, including their families and friends, attended. O H Pierce former president of the state rural Rotary clubs spoke on aims and purposes of Rotary. Mrs J O Lamb of Portland Ore a guest contributed readings at the Whitney home. Pershing park benefited from a community fundraiser sponsored by Clarksville women on July 25. An orchestra provided music and refreshments drew attendees from surrounding areas, raising 160 dollars for park improvements. A film shown during the event caught fire from wiring and was destroyed. the projector machine owned by Tambix Auto Company was only slightly damaged.
Walnut Street Baptists defeated Central Christian nine by 4 to 2 at League Park. First Congregational beat Burton Avenue Baptists 3 to 2 at Cedar River Park. First Evangelicals set to face Grace M B at League Park tonight.
Minnie Monroe files for divorce alleging fuel and inhuman treatment by Elmer Monroe whom she wed in Waterloo December 24 1919. She states they separated May 20 and seeks an injunction to keep him from molesting her or loitering at 140 Barclay Street South.
A. T. Hukitt, Iowa educator, is again critically ill at home after a severe attack. His condition worsened last week but a morning report states he has a fighting chance. He has been ill for months and recently confined to his desk.
