Bandits Search Farm for Liquor Near Council Bluffs

A six man gang and a woman in a big car claimed officers searched the Rodenburg farm seeking liquor but found none. They pressured Rodenburg to go to town, then fled after he warned of consequences. The next day a bogus sheriff appeared. Rodenburg notified authorities but the group remained at large. Also reported is the death of Mildred Preston, 16, en route to hospital for tonsillitis operation.

Fire destroys Clinton grocery and meat market building

A fire in Clinton on July 24 largely destroyed the building at 546 550 Second Avenue housing Wm. Albrecht’s grocery and H. C. Hansen’s meat market. The origin is undetermined and only the walls remain.
