Wans Scheme Against Farmers Alleged by I W W in Sioux City

Sioux City Iowa July 21. Tricks by the I W W to hold up harvest laborers are alleged as men apply at the government employment bureau to secure field work. Farmers visit the bureau to hire from applicants. Some laborers are steered to the highest bidder, others travel with harvester crews. More than 900 men have been directed to work since offices opened, with 136 sent out Monday. Railroads report fewer rail riders than four years ago, despite bands of I W W moving toward the Dakotas. Officials say federal and state aid is lacking and trains are difficult to regulate with crews sometimes unable to stop bands.
