Three Witnesses May Aid Scott Life Prospects

Chicago July 18 three new witnesses claim the murder of Joseph Maurer drug clerk was not a holdup but a quarrel over bootleg whisky and that Robert Scott fired the shot. One Detroit witness named Ball says Maurer died after Robert spoke. Ball says Russell could not have fired. The telegram signed Robert Scott prompted Gov Small to grant a reprieve hours before the hanging. Card Game Ends With Assault Over Lamp
