Waterloo kin struck by lightning at home near Johnstown
Ellen Jane Shaffer Burkhart 74 aunt of Mrs. F E Watkins and E J Weller was instantly killed July 6 at the Burkhart homestead. The Carnegie carbide lighting likely conducted the charge. the bolt struck her head, melted glasses, and tore shoes. Survivors include husband David L Burkhart and children Mrs H Rorabaugh Mrs Wisstoger Harry and Olan Burkhart at home plus Mrs Arnott of Long Island and seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Manchester stores must install heating plants for own use
Manchester Louisiana July 16 A large heating plant overhaul is planned as the Inwa KMieursie company stops furnishing steam heat to about 50 users including many businesses and residences. The firm cites the high cost of renewing old main pipes laid 20 years ago and recurring bursts, stating it cannot finance new lines and will discontinue service before cold weather.
