Higher Grade Gas Possible With New Wash and Cooling System
Central Iowa Power & Light Co plans a new wash and cooling system to raise gas quality for patrons. The 68 degree washed gas will be cooled before entering purifying boxes of 5,016 cubic feet capacity, removing sulfur and impurities to protect heating efficiency. Gas flows from 20 inch mains through the system to 16 inch mains, the largest underground piping in operation. The gas meter repair shop moves to the generating plant, and a Brown hoist with 66 foot boom and two cubic yard bucket is added, replacing 15 men’s work unloading coal and coke and loading ashes.
