Davenport Field Battery Recruited for Federal Service
In Davenport July 16 veterans show strong interest in military service as Battery 3B First Town Field Artillery is recruited and mustered into federal service with four officers and 20 enlisted men. About 27 percent have prior service and 23 percent served with the army in France. Davenport plans a second artillery unit and aims for a battalion headquarters. The city boasts a top Midwest artillery armory on a 11-acre tract with a two story admin building and a fireproof stable housing 42 box stalls. the drill hall measures 100 by 150 feet for simultaneous artillery drills.
