Neptune and aviation woes headline tumult in today’s news
Turbulent reports recount the failed trans Atlantic air race with French crew Capt. Dury and Coste, and Jacques Bellonte, plus the Marshal Pilsudski wreck in the Azores. High winds, engine trouble, and a dangerous mislanding halted both efforts as Major Ludwik Idzikowski and navigator Casimir Kubala were injured. A Chicago Bowler plane wrecks off Port Burwell and a high school boy imitates police sirens, leading to arrest. Chinatown opium smuggling cases threaten international tensions as race riots erupt in North Platte and Princess Anne. Cloudbursts flood midwestern towns, killing a Union Missouri family and damaging rail lines. A new Hudson fire cooperative plans rural protection with a mobile modern fire truck.
