Timely intervention by Lewis Johnson of Iowa Light Heat and Power Co. freed Wisley and West from beneath an overturned car on the Montezuma road south of Malcom. Both men suffered severe injuries. Elsie sustained facial cuts and bruises, while West suffered torn ligaments and body injuries. West was taken to Community hospital and Wisley to his home.
The body of Mrs Margaret Cunningham aged 62 was found in Willow Pond near Front Rose Lake south of East Dubuque. Coroner William Uhren arrived from Galena to conduct an inquest into the drowning, believed to result from wandering from her son John A Cunningham's cottage.
