Raising Rabbits Cuts Meat Bills for Waterloo Families
About 30 Waterloo families reduce weekly meat costs by raising rabbits. Local raiser Karl W. Jacoby notes Belgian hares and Flemish Giants yield four to five pounds of white meat in four months, with low feed needs. Rabbits can be bred monthly, feed is mostly dandelion and garden greens, and some stock sells for breeding prices. Many local raisers belong to the Waterlon Pet Stock association which plans an exhibit during the Dairy Cattle Congress week.
