Lima J. Chapman owner of a Kansas City dairy plant traveled in a refrigerated car cooled by ammonia to Isle Royale in Lake Superior to escape heat in Des Moines he was aided by two physicians after nearly suffering heat prostration in Kansas City. He planned to reach the island tonight by boat from Duluth with medical supervision.
Southwestern Montana rattled by earthquakes felt in Helena Great Falls Three Forks Manhattan and Billings. Three Forks faced a two minute shaking causing residents to run into streets. No widespread damage reported aside from bricks loosened by prior shocks.

Sunstroke victim Ernest Voltz aged 38 committed suicide by shooting himself yesterday after suffering heat for days. Family statements say he had regained consciousness earlier and prepared to return to work when he killed himself in his home.

In Sioux City Iowa on July 10 Robert McKee of Des Moines led Dr Paul Barton of Fort Dodge 1 up after 18 holes while Arthur Bartlett of Ottumwa led Ted Payseur of Dubuque 4 up at the same point in the state fortieth event semifinals. Bartlett was 2 up on Payseur after nine holes and McKee and Dr Barton were even then.
Major John L. Griffith, commissioner of athletics for the Western conference, told a gathering in Iowa City that eastern teams are easier to defeat than Big Ten clubs. He cited growing midwest interest in college athletics and predicted the east would not remain supreme. The conference will adjourn after tonight’s sessions as more than 200 attended the opening meeting.
