Southwest Wheat Harvest Interrupted by Rains
Des Moines reports the winter wheat harvest in the southwest and eastern belt slowed by rain in the first half of the week, with better weather later improving progress. Cutting began from Ohio northward and toward central Illinois and southern Nebraska, while southeastern Kansas and parts of Missouri saw dead ripe wheat uncut. Oklahoma delays lingered, but Texas threshing looked favorable as spring wheat advanced in the northern Pacific states. Oats and corn faced issues from short straw and poor cultivation due to persistent rains.
