Iowa Assembly Blamed for Big State Expenditures Rise
Des Moines reports blame placed on the Thirty-fifth Iowa General Assembly for a $2,698,641 rise in biennial state operating costs ending June 30 1914. Officials say actual government work cost little more, attributing most growth to recent appropriations. New departments like the industrial and insurance commissions and the code commission added costs, while educational funding increased under legislature acts.
