Woman suffrage faces opposition in Iowa session
Des Moines July 1 anti-suffrage leaders marshal forces to oppose the federal amendment ratification while suffrage leaders predict a large majority in the legislature opening tomorrow. House and Senate members plan to speak against the measure, arguing unconstitutional state ratification first. Gov Harding’s decision to call the special session is challenged by some, while Attorney General Hayner defends it. Legislators expect Representatives O'Donnell and Knickerbocker to lead the fight, though both have not officially confirmed plans. Leading suffragists say they have pledges from enough lawmakers to ratify.
