At a recent board meeting with mayors and police chiefs, discussion centered on extending oversight and funding for investigators such as L Miller and Mason. Mason’s dual role as road patrolman and constable remains under review with a Feb. 25 board session set to decide.

County attorney could appoint Mason as deputy under statutes

Yesterday discussion centered on Sheriff H T Wagner failing to appoint Mason as deputy sheriff. The county attorney might appoint him as a special officer, removing him from his dual roles as road patrolman and constable. This view follows sections cited and contrasts with a Maxwell-O'Brien opinion opposing the idea.
