Senate drafts new rail bill no strike ban
Washington January 26 The Senate Interstate Commerce Committee nearly finished a bill to supplement the Adamson law. The measure would make violence against railroad operations a crime with fines up to 100 dollars or six months imprisonment but would not bar picketing and peaceful persuasion. It preserves Clayton act exemptions for labor unions. The bill also lets the president requisition equipment for troops or munitions during war threats. The Senate approved a 26000 inauguration expense appropriation amid hotel-rate gripes. The Steering Committee aims to frame a Democratic program prioritizing railroad legislation, delaying President Wilson's peace address debates as lawmakers shuttle busyness.
