Cummins Opposes Gamble on Lorimer Bribery Rule
In Washington on January 1 the Lorimer scandal featured Senator Cummins of Iowa refuting Senator Gamble of South Dakota. Cummins argued that a bribed election should not count, while Gamble claimed even with ten bribed votes Lorimer could still win. The exchange exposed flaws in gambling’s math and prompted sharp questioning on bribery and validity of votes.
