Broad room type brooding house aids healthy chicks
Waverly Iowa January 23 a new type brood house described to Bremer county poultrymen by W M Vernon of the extension service enables chicks to be raised indoors away from ground contamination while staying healthier. The warm and cool room design holds 350 to 400 chicks per unit with insulated walls and removable partitions. The Ames state station house measures 12 by 16 feet with a 10 by 12 warm room and 6 by 12 cool room. Continuous ventilation and a chick door permit gradual temperature changes. Vernon notes higher health in chicks raised in warm and cool rooms and provides feeding and sanitation guidelines for the first 10 to 12 weeks.
