Charles E Purdy banker merchant and longtime Independence official died at his home from pernicious anemia. Born May 20 1855 in Galena Illinois he came to Independence at age one and remained a resident. He served as mayor city treasurer and bank cashier and was active in Masonic bodies. He married Maude Burhan in 1885 and left two children Mrs J F Davis of Boston and Catherine at home.
