DILL BAND TAX PETITIONS READY FOR BALLOT

Petitions to place a two mill band maintenance tax on the city ballot are circulating. The 1927 code requires signatures from 8 61 voters, about 10 percent of last election, to place the measure before voters on March 26. The proposal would levy not more than 2 mills yearly for band upkeep, starting 1929, yielding roughly 5 000 dollars. Members of the American Legion urge the levy as fairer than public subscriptions.

Time clues mark a stroll through shops and delays

A narrator clocks times at Joseph and United cigar stores then at the Riviera theatre engagement, noting several shops lack visible clocks. The piece muses on why ready-to-wear and shag shops avoid visible timekeeping, suggesting employers want customers to delay decisions and timing to depart.
