Sale of Gun Without Filing Report Charged
Information prepared by EB. J. Wenner, county attorney, was to be filed today in Cedar Falls for Lonny Helm accused of selling a revolver to Edale Hanner about December 22 and failing to report the sale within 24 hours. The law requires reporting by dealers and individuals selling firearms. Penalties include up to $500 fine or up to one year in jail. Sheriff Henderson did not take Edale and Leslie Hanner to the penitentiary last night due to expected testimony. The trio received life sentences for the murder of Tony Gunanas on December 28. Edele Hanner stated he procured the revolver from Lonny Halm, recovered by deputies at the house where Karl McBain had lived. The sheriff plans to move the prisoners to Fort Madison tonight. William McBain, father of Earl McBain, from south of Cedar Falls, said he came to bid his son farewell and noted his son will not be 21 until next month.
