County Gets Too Little Auto Fees

The state of Iowa takes the money for auto registrations while Black Hawk County bears the work load. County officials say 25 cents per registration is far too little and transfers generate no revenue for the county. In 1922 the county paid over $5,000 in clerical work and received about $2,400 for registering more than 10,000 vehicles. Over 5,000 licenses were transferred, with penalties on delinquent 1923 renewals adding about $5,000 for the state, not the county.
