Grist of Fort Janesville and Grindstone War Tale
W. V. Lucas of Santa Cruz writes to the Waverly Republican urging Bremer county history preservation. He recounts the grindstone war near Clear Lake, the fort at Janesville started in 1884, its defense by settlers led by John Barrick and others, and the later memories preserved by Dickinson and Jenkinson. He notes the case’s place in pioneer history and the need to keep such recollections alive.
