Washington D C Jan 3 Altho falling off in loadings of coal coke and ore caused total loadings of revenue freight on American railroads last year to show a decline of 2 6 per cent from 1923 the totals for both the first and last quarters of the year were the greatest ever recorded for those periods according to complete 1924 loading figures announced today by the American Railway Association. Compilations of the association s car service division show total loadings last year of 48 527 227 cars This compares with 49 812 113 cars in 1923 the single record and 43 207 561 cars in 1932. With the exception of coal cakes land are all commodities and freight classifications reached new high record readings in 1924. Leadings of grain and grain products were 5 per cent greater than the previous high record of 22 totaling 2 574 cars or 122 730 more than in that year. The figure is an increase of 12 per cent over the total for 192:.

John M Hickey a Creston business man for twenty years and city council member the past four years died at his home after a brief illness He is survived by his widow and two children in Creston Va funeral details were not disclosed locally he was 58 or 60.
Iowa City, Jan. Marvin Novek and John Kinney, both of Iowa City, are bound over to the grand jury on manslaughter charges in the death of 14 year old newsboy Deming. The teenager was run over on Dec 27 as he rode beside a car that fled the scene. The coroner ruled negligent driving by those in the car, who were arrested near Davenport the same night. If freed on manslaughter charges, they may still face trucking charges in Davenport where liquor was found in their car at arrest.
Three killed when a Duluth flier of the Northwestern railroad struck an auto at a street crossing in Madison Wisconsin last night. Victims include Mrs Alice Bleld and Al Anderson of Mattison and Andrew Anderson farmer of West Point. Car parts were strewn along the right of way for nearly a half mile as signals and locomotive whistle reportedly warned but the driver drove ahead. The coroner, Stephenson, identified the deceased and noted Mrs Bleld was a divorced stenographer in the Wisconsin Industrial Commission office.
Reports that a mail car was entered and robbed Tuesday in the Cheazo and Northwestern railway yards could not be confirmed today. Rumors in the federal building said parcel post valued under $500 was stolen at the post. inspectors and railroad officials deny knowledge of the theft. R. B. Lewis, acting post inspector, said he had no report of a mail car robbery in the Northwestern railroad yards.
