Ice Goes Out Cedar River At Cedar Falls
Hundreds watched the Cedar River shed its ice during the first week of January. The river above the dam became clear as sunlight glittered on waves, while boats were observed moving upriver. Temperatures held near 46 degrees with thawing weather, and the ice layer was about four inches thick when it left the mill. Experts fear a poor natural ice crop this winter after a season of late thaw.
