Plan New Roof for City Hall in Coming Years
City council committee on public buildings approved plans to replace the roof of Lafayette street City Hall with a three ply rubberoid pitched roof. Edward Malenke, building commissioner, will prepare specs for bids by week’s end and work could start soon, weather permitting. Interior changes include enlarging the municipal clerk’s office by moving a rear wall, reducing court room space. The roof’s leak damage in recent winters prompted action after attempts to fix did not prevent flooding.

Iowa Farm Land Values Seen Too High for Returns
Washington News Bureau reports from January outline a 1919 to 1920 Iowa land boom. The Agriculture Department and Iowa State College find farm land prices rose sharply, with average values up $121 per acre since 1915 and $63 between March 1919 and March 1920. Most buyers and sellers were farmers, yet returns on investment are cited as insufficient for the high prices, given credit costs and loan rates.
