The Washerwoman Prophecy in Side Talks Cameron

A collage from various papers discusses domestic labor and gender roles. It contrasts a washerwoman’s efficiency, a child’s sidewalk mishap, and a mistress managing household duties with modern laundry methods. The piece frames washing as skilled work rather than drudgery and notes the home’s social balance.

Great Grandmother in a Modern Kitchen Era

The article muses on how modern labor saving devices like vacuum cleaners electric irons washing machines and central plumbing transform domestic work. It notes a woman who chose washing and ironing over other tasks and cites a couple who cut maids from two to one without reducing service. It ponders what future innovations may bring in the next twenty years.
