Million Men to Enter Class One Under Draft Plan
Washington D C Jan 4 All men for the war armies will be drawn from class one under the selective service plan. Provost Marshal Gen Crowder reports the policy aims to place men without families and unskilled in essential work into military service. He proposes registering all men who reached 21 since June 5 1917 and basing state quotas on class one strength rather than population. The report suggests 1 000 000 qualified men remain in class one with 700 000 more added yearly from future registrations. Class one includes single men with no dependents, certain married men, unskilled laborers, and others not deferred by classification.
