Washington News Bureau reports that fire mutuals in Iowa may gain tax relief as a revenue bill amendment advances in Congress. Rep Dickinson proposes exemptions for cooperative nonprofit mutual insurance firms, following prior tax relief for school bus districts.
A parade of Iowa visitors came to Washington to press tax measure changes. Members including Hult on the military affairs committee expect an early report to the House as the War Department approves the move. Representatives and families traveled, urging elimination of certain taxes and meeting Treasury and other officials.
The Vinton Community Club held a Monday banquet at the Cecian church honoring Migynired et and others. Speakers discussed relations with the United States, Major, and a visit to Birmingham for spring training.
The case was set for the November term but the defendant did not appear when the day arrived. He forfeited a $1,000 bond, and the court ordered a new warrant with his arrest and increased bond to $5,000. It is believed he was en route to Europe. Since the alleged seduction he has married a woman unaware of the indictment and will be brought to Vinton for trial. Dr. Borland will leave Vinton. Dowden will take over the office in Shellsburg around March 1. Harland plans to move west, likely to Los Angeles, amid health concerns and the town’s social and church life.
An advertisement touts Stuart s Dyspepsia Tablets as an aid after heavy meals. It claims the tablets provide an alkaline effect, aid digestion, absorb gas, and stop acidity to prevent indigestion. A 60 cent box is recommended for relief.
