Stronger Prohibition Laws Urged by Iowa AG Cosson
Iowa Attorney General Cosson will urge the legislature to pass simple bills to strengthen enforcement of the prohibition law after the coming session. Proposals include state agents to back local officials, harsher penalties for violations, reporting of liquor shipments, tighter transport rules, and possible repeal of pharmacist permits for liquor sales. The move aims to curb bootleggers and ensure effective prohibition statewide.

Believe Clarkson Repeal Bill Safe
Des Moines reports indicate Attorney General George Cosson predicts Iowa liquor interests will accept repeal of the mulet law without contest. He rejects eastern rumors that saloonmen will seek to invalidate the law on title defects. Senator Clarkson says a curative title bill could be introduced but only with temperance input. A leading prohibitionist hints saloon forces will spend wartime funds to elect a wet slate, possibly enabling reenactment if a wet legislature comes in 1917.
