Farm and Garden Iowa timber gains and cow testing spread
Iowa could add up to 20 million dollars in annual revenue through scientific use of natural timber areas. The state has 2.5 million acres of timber, more than Nebraska, Kansas, and the Dakotas combined, with woodlands capable of yielding timber many times that of neighboring states. Professor G B MacDonald notes timber lands are underused and could boost Iowa’s economy. The Pioneer Cow Testing Association near Waterloo reports 38 cows with butter-fat records above 45 pounds for December, highlighting improved breeding and care on Black Hawk county farms.
