Mayor Thompson announced a policy to protect local merchants by denying licenses to peddlers selling fur and other goods. He said itinerant sellers offer inferior merchandise and that the city cannot afford the small license revenue. He will issue licenses only to those selling merchandise not carried by local firms, noting more peddlers come with spring.
