Education Board Seeks Dorms Without New Money
Des Moines reports the State board of education aims to expand dormitory facilities at state institutions without direct legislative appropriations. The plan, modeled after Wisconsin, would require students to pay, with enough housing for all female students and all freshmen men, and operate with a modest profit while avoiding burden on taxpayers. The board notes rising enrollment and costs, cites possible library and dairybuilding needs, and asserts it has not asked for extra funds.
