Shankland Bill To Allow Saloons By Ballot In Cities
Des Moines Feb 19 Special Representative Shankland of Polk county will introduce a bill to secure consent to operate multi saloons by ballot rather than petition. The measure would require a 25 percent petition to call a special election in cities with 6000+ population, paid by liquor interests, with only registered voters at that election allowed to vote. Shankland says it is not a wet measure and cites Waterloo Ottumwa as examples for trial.
