Record profit for Keifer Rouge 2nd of Brickfield at Iowa college

Keifer Rouge 2nd of Brickfield, a two and a half year old Guernsey at Iowa Agricultural College, earned a net profit of 159.09 dollars for the year ending January 10, 1911, from 10962 pounds of milk and 611.8 pounds of butterfat. The butter was worth 214.13 dollars at 30 cents per pound, skim milk 25 cents per hundred yielded 25.87 dollars, feed costs totaled 88.91 dollars. Rouge 2nd’s performance is the best yet for a cow of this breed, illustrating how actual profitability depends on proper testing and management rather than looks. Prof. Bliss advocates Denmark style cow tests to help farmers identify profitable cows, noting 147 unprofitable cows found in such associations last year. Rouge 2nd received excellent care and feed during the record year.
