Iowa Boy Captures General Marmaduke at Misia Creek
Iowa cavalry private James Dunlavy earns fame for capturing Confederate Gen Marmaduke at the Misia Creek battle near Osage Kane on October 25 1864. Dunlavy wounded in the shoulder and later both he and Marmaduke were escorted to officers. Fort Scott Congress and Bloomfield showered Dunlavy with honors for his decisive action and calm presence.

Appropriations Cut for State Board Control Actions
