Denver Reporter Trails Fall Thru New Mex Troubled Years
Denver reporter D Ek Stackelbeck earned praise from Senator Walsh for exposing facts tied to Harry F Sinclair leases by Interior Secretary Fall. Stackelbeck’s 1922 New Mexico trip uncovered that Fall paid years of delinquent taxes and started improvements on Fall ranch as Sinclair obtained oil leases. He toured the state interviewing miners, cowmen, and officials to piece together Fall’s career from territorial judge to U S senator.

X Ray Reveals Secret of Damascus Steel Tempering
London February 1 United Press reports the long standing puzzle of Damascus blades tempered. X ray analysis led by Sir William Rage shows Damascus steel originated in India and its needles of cementite hardened by precise heat cycles. The findings explain why Saladin’s famed scimitar is considered supreme in steel temper. Despite the method, modern smiths cannot match its temper. In Cresco Iowa on February 15 former federal judge H T Reed and family are in town after a long illness and a high speed biplane trip.
