Audits reveal irregularities in Kiene firm bankruptcy case
Detailed audits filed before U.S. referee in bankruptcy show Peter Kiene & Son owed Colonial Land and Holdings $85,000 while Colonial owed nothing to Kiene. Notes, such as a $100,000 loan from Colonial to Kiene, lack justification. Irregularities appear in the Bisbee Collections account. Peter Kiene & Son profits ranged from about $31,691 to $55,922 yearly from 1908 to 1912. Colonial lands security for $500,000 bonds cost the Kiene firm $162,931 with appraisers valuing lands near $165,000, harming creditors' prospects for recovery.
