In La Porte City Iowa on February 11, report says hybrid corn that won the Iowa state corn yield contest shows strong performance on farms. Fred Wheeler planted it last season and saw about 10 bushels per acre more than his regular variety. He notes tall stalks, quick ripening, and expects seed costs to ease as advertising prices drop since 1927. Producing seed requires new cross lines each year, making seed production a specialty. Farmers may prefer buying new seed yearly to secure higher yields.
