One Day Storm Frequency in Iowa
Iowa records show the state experiences unusually frequent one day storms, with the southwest hit hardest. Since 1890 a cloud burst has occurred 33 times in that region, and Primghar in O Brien County logged 13 inches in 24 hours on April 14 1920. Eight Iowa locales have had more than 10 inches in 26 hours. Prof Floyd A Nagler notes extensive drainage work shapes these events.
