Pierce Sues For 705 000 Libel Damages

Des Moines reports a $205 000 libel suit against James Pierce publisher of The Homestead filed by Woodworth Clum secretary of the Greater Iowa association in Polk County district court. Clum alleges Pierce published statements linking him to irregularities in state government and the Panama Pacific exposition commission. Attorneys include Emmett Tipley and Judge Bollinger. The filing deadline and retraction demand were noted with no retraction appearing.

Boy Kilsed Going Home from Movies by Street Car

Thirteen Drunks Remanded in Des Moines Court

Des Moines, Feb 10. Thirteen intoxicated individuals were arraigned before Judge Franklin after weekend drinking with Choctaw liquor. The largest tally since December, they faced varying sentences from three to two months in county jail, each claiming an alibi as payments to the city treasury increased by 50 dollars for the day and 187 days of work to be assigned.

Butler County Fair Sets Sept 7 10 at Allison

Alison La Feb 10 At a Butler County Fair association meeting in Allison Feb 2 dates for the 1920 fair were set for Sept 7 to 10 inclusive. One of the biggest attraction programs was purchased with fireworks for three nights. A new swine pavilion will be erected and a modern expedition building with restrooms and a children's department started. The fair, called the Successful Fair, will mark the sixty fourth annual exhibition. Proceeds of the 1919 exhibition, $2000, will be applied to the improvements.
